Countertop Job Checklist
Work smart. Save time and money. Avoid problems and delays.

From start to finish we recommend you have on hand a printed copy of both JOB CHECKLIST (PDF) and BELEZA, Inc. WORK AGREEMENTS (PDF).

Check BoxWe want you to have good quality job that's done on time and at the estimated cost. To help us achieve our mutual goal, please read and follow the check list below. You'll be happy with the process and eliminate wondering if your desires have been effectively communicated to us.

  1. 1. SUBMIT ACCURATE DRAWINGS
Print out the ESTIMATE PREPARATION FORM (PDF). Fill it out and fax it to us. Do this well ahead of when you're ready for us to template for your counter tops. We prepare this free estimate to help avoid any surprises and to help you make decisions.
  2. 2. SELECT YOUR STONE
Once you have accepted our estimate, go to a warehouse and pick out the specific pieces of stone you want. We can tell you the number of slabs you will need to put on reserve under BELEZA, Inc. and your name. The warehouse will send us an invoice. If you cannot or will not select the stone you want, we require a signed waiver of responsibility stating that whatever stone we select is acceptable to you. Our estimate/proposal is based on stone supplied from either Denver or Grand Junction. Stone from any other location will have and added fee for transportation.
  3. 3. INSTALL CABINETS LEVEL & EVEN THROUGHOUT
Make sure that each cabinet is level and that all the cabinet surfaces on which the counter tops will be installed are even with each other throughout. You are responsible for stone breakage or poor seams due to uneven cabinet installations.
  4. 4. MAKE WALLS BEHIND THE COUNTER TOPS STRAIGHT
We will neither scribe cut the back edge of the counter top nor the back splash in an attempt to match a crooked, bowed, or wavy wall. The consequences related to your counter top installation caused by crooked, bowed, or wavy walls are your responsibility. However, we will do everything we can within reason to compensate for such a situation.
  5. 5. AFFIX SUB TOPS PERMANENTLY IN PLACE
For 2cm counter tops with a 4cm finished edge, use continuous 3/4" thick sub tops on all cabinet surfaces on which counter tops will be installed. These must be cut flush with the cabinet face. For 3cm counter tops you do not need sub tops except perhaps inset inside any cabinets in which an under mount will be installed. For any other thickness of stone or finished edge we need to discuss and agree upon the best approach for the situation well in advance of templating.
  6. 6. LOCATE UNDER MOUNT SINKS & HAVE TEMPLATES
The exact location for under mount sinks needs to be marked by the time we come to template. Order your under mount sinks well ahead of time. You are responsible for any errors of fabrication when your under mount sinks with their templates are not available at the job site and the location marked when we come to template. We may charge extra to make a sink template if you do not supply one.
  7. 7. DOES YOUR SINK-FAUCET-COUNTER TOP COMBINATION WORK?
It's helpful to have your plumbing fixtures on hand at the time we template to make sure that everything works together as you want it. You are responsible for sink-faucet-counter top combinations that do not work at the time of installation. You, your contractor, your designer, or your plumber must tell us where you want plumbing holes drilled at the time of installation. We will NOT locate plumbing holes for drilling.
  8. 8. LOCATE ELECTRICAL OUTLET BOXES PROPERLY
Make sure that your electrical box locations are where you want them relative to the back splash. Electrical boxes and box covers should either be completely above the back splash, or centered within the outside edges of the back splash. (Left click on the picture to enlarge it.) Any electric boxes located other than described above that require stone cutouts will be charged extra.
  9. 9. PREPARE ROADS AND JOB SITE FOR INSTALL ACCESS
Ruts, bumps, holes, washboard, and other road hazards on the way to your job site can jeopardize your counter tops. You are responsible for damage to your counter tops resulting from such road hazards. When we believe that even cautious driving will place your job in jeopardy, we will not proceed to your job site. Your installation will be rescheduled and you will be charged for an additional trip. Practical and safe access on the job site for moving your counter top pieces into their final install location must be provided by you. This may include stairs, walkways, an elevator of adequate size and capacity, or even a crane. You are responsible for damage to your counter tops or for any extra costs to provide such access.
  10. 10. SCHEDULE JOB FOR TEMPLATE
Your job will be tentatively scheduled once you accept our estimate and make the 1st payment amount indicated on the estimate. Your job will be firmly scheduled once you provide us with the date your job is ready to template. Someone must be present to answer final finish questions when we come to template. This usually requires only a small amount of time. You are responsible for any errors in fabricating your counter tops when we are asked to make finish decisions.
  11. 11. INSTALL JOB
Your job will be installed three to four weeks from the date we template, as long as this check list has been followed. We complete all installations to M.I.A. (Marble Institute Of America) standards or better. These standards are the only measure by which a job may be accepted or rejected. These standards do NOT include issues of design, only technical proficiency related to fabrication and installation. Make sure that any designer you use is knowledgeable about both the characteristics of the material and the type finish of the counter tops he or she is recommending for your application.
